Selection out of 49 studies composed by

Valeri Efimovich Khortov

(Russia, 1926)

(Or sometimes named Jortov)

A prominent Russian composer of the city of Belozersk, in the region of Vologodsk, metallurgical profession, who was a candidate for Master of Sport of the USSR and also the title of judge for chess composition. Jortov, who started his studies in 1960, reports that until 1987 he had created 102 studies, but he did not say anything about the number of awards and distinctions he obtained with his works in contests. In his Studies he shows himself as a very eclectic composer, both in the choice of themes and in the form of presentation, ranging from subtle miniatures to works of neoromantic nuances, where the idea is hidden behind long systematic maneuvers.
