Russel enterprises LLC has issued the book:
An Introduction to Chess Endgame Studies
With 240 pages Oleg Pervakov, one of the best composers of our time has created an very interesting work, where our fine art is displayed with about 200 endgame studies. Oleg Pervakov is not only a Grandmaster in Chess composition, but was also many years world champion in this field !
Yochan Afek starts his nice Foreword with the advice to every chessplayer: "A study a Day Keeps Blunders Away!"
The first and largest chapter of about 120 pages shows studies organised around many themes (in an alphabetical order). First the themes are explained, followed by nice examples. Most of them (for me) to follow from the diagrams without the need to setup a chessboard.
The 2nd small chapter is titled: How to Solve Endgame Studies. Very usefull for the many chesslovers who take part in Solving events, where more and more serious competitions are organised and also official titles are to be achieved.
The 3rd chapter is titled: How to compose Endgame Studies containing 13 pages, and is of course usefull for anyone who wants to create a beautiful piece of this chess art.
The 4th chapter contains 72 solving training exercises, organised also by themes.
The 5th chapter gives the solutions.
The book ends with an index with a reference to the studies by the composers.
Oleg clearly did not use this book to show mainly his own pieces of art, because only 18 of his more than 500 created Endgame studies are used in the book.
The study at the front of the (hard-cover) book is a co-study of Oleg Pervakov and Yochanan Afek (the solution of course is in the book).
Peter Boll.
