He was a professional physicist and (as his friend Kraemer, Adolf 1898-1972 is) an important chess composer.
He was able to compose not only highly impressive orthodox chess problems, but also outstanding masterpieces in the field of chess studies.

He is International Master of the FIDE for chess composition since 1973.

He is International Judge of the FIDE for chess compositions since 1957.
